A Fellowship in the World, but not of the World

Confirming Defending Bearing the Gospel of Christ Jesus

Site

I would like to welcome you to my blog and Bible study site. My name is Paul Walker and I have been saved, reading and studying God's word for 40+ years. I do not claim to be a scholar, in fact, I would deny it vehemently. I am a common man writing to common men and women about the unleavened common faith. Most importantly, these studies are about letting the word of God speak for itself.

I believe the Bible is to be understood and received in the plain and obvious meaning of its passages; for I cannot persuade myself that a book intended for the instruction and conversion of the whole world should cover its true meaning in any such mystery and doubt that none but critics and philosophers can discover it.

There are a few things you should know about this site. I believe the Bible teaches:

  1. Man has free will
  2. Salvation is by grace without works
  3. Open Theology--history is ongoing in real time

If you continue reading further you will inevitably read that those three statements form a certain biblical view or framework in which I approach the study of God's word, my bias. Each of us, if we desire to understand the Scriptures, must seek and find the correct framework or bias to bring or they will be misinterpreting the Bible. You will have to continue to read to find out more about this.

The last thing you need to understand about this site is that all my studies are based on one Bible, the Authorized Version of 1611, commonly called the King James Bible. Unless it agrees with what the AV says, it ain't right.

Amos 8:11-12 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: 12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

This prophecy is fulfilled today. Running from translation to translation but never able to say here we have the word of God. This is a better translation, it should have been translated this way, this manuscript is older than that one, my scholarship is better than your scholarship, we are lost is a sea of confusion.

English readers have access to more translations of the Bible than readers of any other language. The American Bible Society estimates that there have been around 900 full and partial biblical translations into English. Naturally, that staggering number isn’t readily available, but you can easily order more than 50 different translations in your favorite bookstore, and many more can be found in used bookstores and libraries.

10 Bible Translations You’ve Never Heard Of

The Bible is written in layers; the deeper you go the more demanding the study becomes. To be honest with you, I spend most of my time studying the first couple, easiest, of layers. Due to the lack of the average Christians knowledge of the Scriptures, I find a large demand for general studies in the upper strata.

The articles and studies on this site are written in a common manner, non-theological jargon. The average teenager on up should have no trouble reading and understand them. You will not find words as: creatio ex nihilo, ecclesiology, Elohist, epistemology, eschatology, exegesis, hermeneutics, or running to the Greek and Hebrew to prove my opinion on what a passage of Scripture means.

And it is the English Bible we are thinking about, the Bible in the vernacular, the tongue most of us best understand. One is grateful to have studied Hebrew and Greek, just to be able to tell others who have not that they do not require either to hearken to our Heavenly Father’s voice. He has an advantage as a scholar who can utilize the original tongues; but the Bible was not given to scholars, but to the people, and “hear we every man in our own tongue wherein we were born” (Acts 2:8

If you are not saved or looking to be, you probably will not enjoy this site. I am writing to Christians that desire to improve their knowledge and understanding of God's word
