I am asked occasionally how to increase one's motivation to read the Bible. I council in this regard, it is necessary to think of the negative in order to achieve the positive.

First, you ought to feel guilty for not reading God’s word. The greatest indignity man can inflict upon his creator is not to listen when He speaks. The Bible is God speaking. God puts his word above his name which makes His word the most important of all things in creation. One should read it to the best of their ability. You cannot understand it unless you know what it says.

This supposed contradiction is a staple of those that want to bring us back under bondage to the law teaching works for salvation. Was Abraham justified by faith or by works?

Romans 4:2-5 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 3For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 4Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

Most perceived inconsistencies or contradictions that are hailed as proof the Bible is not divinely inspired are the product of anti-God fantasy and ignorance of the Bible. Such is the case of the death of Judas Iscariot, was he hung or did he fall off a clif and bust open?

In reading Matthew 27:5 and Acts 1:18 some find a contradiction in the way Judas died. A little study and reason will solve the problem.

Matthew 27:5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

Acts 1:18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

Personally, I hold to the Authorized Version of 1611, commonly called the King James Version, nonetheless, I would not presume to tell anyone what they can or cannot read.

Amos 8:11-12 KJV Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: 12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

This prophecy is fulfilled today. Running from translation to translation but never able to say here we have the word of God. This is a better translation, it should have been translated this way, this manuscript is older than that one, my scholarship is better than your scholarship, we are lost is a sea of confusion, the famine of the word of God is here.

A mission statement does not have to be of great length, one short sentence or phrase will do. Upon the establishing of a mission follows the forming of the bylaws, regulations and methods of operation that govern the body, prescribing and proscribing its bounds in order to maintain and limit it to its mission.

The physical Church on earth is an organization, it has a mission, a purpose for being. Establishing the Church is not something God had to do, it is part of his plan and it was designed to fulfill a purpose. It is, or ought to be, obvious that a majority of the New Testament is a framework of commandments and instruction to guide, direct and limit the saints walk to a purpose.

The Bible swirls in controversy but how complicated is all the hubbub. There are only three attitudes we can have toward its pages: love, hate, or indifference. It is either God’s word, its not, or we do not care.

Revelation 3:15-16 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

The worst we can do is be indifferent to the Bible, love it or hate it, but do not ignore it. God demands we pick a side. The wait and see what happens approach is loathsome to God.
