 From time to time I have been ask to describe a proper Christian life. Now there is quite a bit one can reference from the Scriptures on this subject; but I have found that all can be reduced  to only three things that are needful to fulfill our duty to God and man:

SERVICE ~ SACRIFICE ~ SUFFERING

SERVICE

Preparing and presenting ourselves for God's use:

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2 Timothy 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

 SACRIFICE

Denying ourselves and mortifying the flesh:

Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

SUFFERING

Patiently enduring the consequences of Service & Sacrifice:

Romans 8:18) For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Philippians 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

If your willing to make the sacrifices to serve your going to suffer for it. O, you may not be burnt at the stake or boiled alive but you will suffer; the lose of your money, time, peace, pride, probably the fellowship of certain friends and family relations; you might be estranged from fellow church members or even from a church or two . This should be expected.

1 Corinthians 9:19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

2 Corinthians 12:15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.

The whole duty of man is to fear God and keep his commandments, lost or saved notwithstanding.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

If we, as saints of God, keep his commandments which are fulfilled in just two precepts, love God and love your neighbor as yourself, we have done no more than what God requires of any man on the face of the earth.

Luke 17:10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, we are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Christianity is that service which is above and beyond that call of duty.

Philippians 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

Matthew 20:27-28 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Let us cease to be great, let us humbly serve.

1 Samuel 2:3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

LIVING IN CHRIST

Service ~ Sacrifice ~ Suffering

For the sake of Christ, for the souls of men.

1 Peter 2:15-16 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

Galatians 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

Understanding

 SERVICE ~ SACRIFICE ~ SUFFERING

I certainly do not want to take away the plain understanding of God's word as laid out in the first part of this study. Nevertheless, I feel that somewhat needs to be said to help us apply it to our lives. Many of our brothers and sisters in Christ have been called to make extreme sacrifices throughout history. However, not all, I certainly am not going to canibal infested islands to be put on the menu to open the door for others to come after, but some have. Our forefathers created a nation here in America where there is no expection to be imprisoned, burn at the stake or have our heads cut off for our faith. At least not up to this point in our history; but many have. There are those that will stand closer to our Lord than others, the mighty men of the Lord. I will not be one of them as this is not something you can say you would have done, you have to have gone through it to know.

 We are all called; reguardless, of out courage or faith, to minister, to witness, to be a testimony of our Lord as best we can. We are called to sacrifice our time, resourses, worldly endeavors, etc., and to present ourselfs for his service everyday of our lifes. God will not ask more of you than you can give, it is not how much you do but how much you can do, that is, God judges the heart, your willingness to serve, sacrifice and suffer for him.

2 Corinthians 8:12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.
